Fashion designer David Meister is known for his amazing dresses—the Hollywood elite like Diane Lane, Sharon Stone, Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson, and Tina Fey can’t stop wearing his gowns on the red carpet— and last night, at an event hosted by All the Looks, David spoke about what it’s like to make clothes for women of all shapes and sizes.

While David says it would be a dream to dress Angelina Jolie (“She’s stunning”), he’s all about creating clothes that can be worn by more than one kind of Viola Davis woman. “None of us would make a living if we were only dressing models,” said David. “It would be beautiful, but we wouldn’t make any money.”

The range of ladies David has dressed is expansive: from “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe to Sharon Stone, who David said can “bury young Hollywood” the way she wears clothes. How can similar styles look good on such varied women? “If it’s well designed,” David said, “it’ll work on a lot of different body types.” In fact, David is all about “fit, fit, fit,” saying it doesn’t matter whether a women shirt dress costs $49 or thousands, the way it works on your body is what matters. That, and stretch or knit fabrics ensure clothes will flatter all shapes.

What about us gals who aren’t attending movie premieres? David said our closets should include three important dresses: a black jersey dress, a brightly colored dress, and a ball gown. The last one, David advised, we should have “just in case! What if someone calls you up last minute and you don’t have one ready to go?” Sounds like we have to go beauty products shopping! To make sure we find shapes that flatter our best features, David suggested trying styles we normally shun: “Always pick up one or two things you’re not sure about; the fitting room door locks, and no one can see what they look like but you.”

Former WWE diva and Rosedale native Stacy Keibler disposed of one Baltimore sports icon and now will go up against another in Stacy Keibler Baltimore Celebrity Smackdown, a tournament to determine Baltimore’s biggest celebrity based on online voting.

In the second round, Stacy Keibler defeated Orioles Hall of Famer Cal Ripken by a margin of 78.4 percent to 21.6 percent to advance to the Sweet 16. Nearly 32,000 votes were cast. Next up for Keibler is record-setting Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.

Stacy Keibler. She used to be a WWE wrestler ladies dress. She damn near (and probably should have) won Dancing With the Stars. And recently, on the strength of having formerly been a Baltimore Ravens cheerleader, she placed ahead of Cal Ripken Jr. in a survey of Baltimore’s favorite sports personalities. While Ripken does have a great ass, we would have cast our vote for Stacy also.

The top model and actress Olga Kurylenko shot to international fame as the character ‘Camille’ in the most recent James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

In keeping with its fashion models experimental approach to the arts, Campari chose the young up-and-coming Italian photographer Simone Nervi to immortalise Olga Kurylenko.

He is well known for working with images and bodies, glamour modeling and changing them “to show the observer his deep passion for reality, its form and representation.” The 2010 Campari Calendar will be printed to a limited run of 9,999 copies, to be distributed worldwide.

It is the eleventh annual calendar for the brand and aims to capture, “the simple but captivating, modern and sophisticated fascination of places, intriguing moments and the city’s most absorbing ritual: the aperitif.”

In 2008, Davis was cast as Mrs. Miller in the film adaptation of John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Doubt.” The mother of a young Catholic school student who was believed to have been molested by a popular priest, Miller casts doubt on the suspicions of Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep) by suggesting that the relationship was not entirely one-sided. Her performance wowed critics across the country and earned Davis’ numerous nominations and awards, including the Breakthrough Award (Female) from the National Board of Review and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Poundland and Pets at Home, both also owned by private equity firms, are understood to be talking to advisers about glamorous women resurrecting flotation plans that have been on hold since the beginning of the credit crunch.

The near-1,500 point rally in the FTSE 100 index over the past seven months to 5,082 has persuaded private equity firms Apax Partners and Permira, the joint owners of New Look with founder fitness model Tom Singh, that investors are ready to invest in a business that has performed well in the downturn.

Investment banks are said to be lining up to handle the flotation photo gallery, with Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Credit Suisse all thought to be vying for the work. A flotation would allow New Look to pay off some of its £1.1bn debt and allow its owners, which have pumped more than £400m into the company, to concentrate resources on some of their struggling businesses.

Permira and Apax refused to comment on photo gallery, but it is believed talks are at an early stage and a final decision on plans for a listing are several weeks away. Start Modeling with Kasia Struss Talent Agency

London Fashion Week got a rude start modeling awakening this weekend when designer Mark Fast announced his intent to use UK size 14 models on the runway.

The daring move, which placed ladies with US sizes 8-10 on the start modeling catwalk, led to a near meltdown among the young designer's staff. Both his stylist and creative director walked out just three days before Saturday's show at Westminster, according to Britain's Daily Mail.

Fast, a 28-year-old knitwear designer originally from Canada, was reportedly saved thanks to the help of a couple of creative talent agency freelancers, Daniela Agnelli and Natalie Hubbarb, who stepped in last minute to ensure the show went off without a hitch. Fast's creative director, Amanda May, supposedly blamed the walkout on "creative differences" over the use of the curvier models.

"There was a team change and we are glad we stuck to our vision," May said. "The decision to use fuller girls is something we have been talking about. There's an idea that only thin and slender talent agency women are able to wear Mark's dresses and he wanted to combat that. We wanted women to know they didn't have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress curvier women can look even better in them."

May also insisted to the paper that the idea to feature the plus-sized models, Hayley Morley, Gwyneth Harrison and Laura Catterall, who all came hip hop from the agency 12+ UK, was not a publicity stunt. But this isn't the first time London Fashion Week has made headlines for reasons unrelated to chic style.

In 2007, a number of size zero models died of starvation, prompting the creation of the Model Kasia Struss. While the Inquiry made several suggestions, it continues to receive much criticism because it ultimately failed to set any firm guidelines about the weight or sizes of models on the catwalk.

Aside from his recent show, Fast model Kasia Struss has also been involved with a photographic exhibition entitled "All Walks Beyond the Catwalk," which features photos of models ages 18 to 65 in garments that measure UK sizes 8 to 16. Like his fashion show, the exhibition, which opened the day before the show, attempts to challenge a view of conventional beauty.

“As a woman who suffered many medical complications from years of struggling with an eating disorder, I never knew if I would be able to have children or not, so to be able to glamorous women celebrate my body while pregnant with my first child was really incredible.”

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NY was sooooo incredibly exciting! It seemed like everyone in the world was there! We went to preview the fitness model Pamella Roland show but we also got an invitation from Alex McCord, a Real Housewife of New York, to attend Walter Baker's show at Style 360. He is a dear friend of hers and we were in the front row with lots of paparazzi!

It was a blast! Even Chuck had a great time! His photo gallery fashions were chic, youthful and oh-so stylish! The first model on the runway was Somalian supermodel Ubah Hassan. She also appeared in the Oscar de la Renta show and was featured in the first all-black issue of Italian Vogue shot by Steven Meisel.

She was one of the best looking (and sweetest) photo gallery models we saw all week! From the Walter Baker show, we went to Bryant Park to wait for the Pamella Roland show to begin at 1 PM. While we waited, we saw Carine Roitfeld (Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue) and Ken Downing (Fashion Director of Neiman Marcus) along with LOTS of very well-dressed fashionistas and zillions of photogs rushing through the tents. These shows are everything you've heard about and more and I was so thrilled to be there!

As we lined up for Abbey Lee Kershaw show, there were throngs of people going to the line marked "Standing Room Only." We felt very grateful to have our tickets in hand. We had to wait while the photographers all got their pre-event photos and then we were allowed in. I've never seen so much press in my life! It was surreal.....Everywhere you looked, there was a celebrity! Lisa Rinna was there in a hot, short red dress with a great haircut.

Nicky Hilton was there but didn't want to sit next to Abbey Lee Kershaw who wasn't famous so there was a bit of juggling in the front row until Abby Manning (Eli Manning's wife) agreed to sit next to her. Nigel Barker, famous photographer on America's Next Top Model, was there looking very handsome and very TALL! We also saw J.

Ever wonder what the inner circle of hot model fashion modeling is like? "The Beautiful Life:TBL" is trying to give you a glimpse.

Was it successful? Well that's hard to say. What is certain is that I am not sure how well it worked as a pilot. The jerky camera movements, flashing lights, loud music and shouting bollywood actress was supposed to create the ambiance of backstage at a fashion show.

But with stilted dialog and obvious set ups, it seemed like a wasted effort. We meet Marissa, an over confident model out for herself, Raina (Sara Paxton), the new girl, and Sonja (Mischa Barton), the super hot model who went AWOL for unknown reasons 6 months ago and is looking for a comeback. When the show stopping final dress of the runway doesn't fit her and can't be let out, Marissa volunteers to take the spot. But it's given to Raina.

And a show stopper it is, rocketing Raina to instant fame and the immediate enemy of all other models in New York. At least, that's how Marissa fitness explains it to poor naive Raina while at the agency of Claudia Foster (Elle Macpherson). Which is where another naive newbie bumps into her.

Chris Andrews & Ana Beatriz Barros is a farm hand working for his dad most days, but he happens to be on a family vacation at a 4 star restaurant in Manhattan just in time to bump into Simon - one of Claudia's agents. She has him strip in the lobby and seems unimpressed, but Simon passes him off to a photographer anyway.

Helpful Raina goes with him and is there with the perfect words to help him relax in front of the camera. Despite his father's objections, he decides to stay in New York an extra few days and see what comes of it all. But it seems there's no room for him at the model house. Which makes little sense, since Isaac is a child model who hasn't been able to book a job in years - so why is he there? Anyway, while the other male models smirk, he heads to Simon's house to change for a big party that night.

At the party, Claudia takes fruity cocktails from the female models Ana Beatriz Barros, telling them there will be no drinking at one of her parties. Yet, nothing is done about the male model who is selling cocaine to just about everyone's knowledge. Everyone also seems to know that Chris is Simon's "date", though Chris doesn't clue in until Simon calls him "baby".

Chris ends up punching him in the face (does homophobia have any place in the modeling world?) which catches the eye of fancy pantsed agent who immediately wants to hire him. Too bad he's already stormed out.

Meanwhile, there's a lot of fuss over a big Versace bollywood actress job. Sonja wants it bad and somehow breaks into the photographer's (Franco) hotel room to steal the dress for the campaign and shows up wearing it at the party. Psycho much? Instead, he hits on her and she runs to the bathroom to cry and call her babysitter. Raina goes to comfort her and Sonja snides back that she doesn't want pity and that Raina will be in her position in a few more years.

In Hungry, her autobiography, described by Nigella Lawson as "a riveting read" and launched on Tuesday at a glittering Manhattan party, the highest-paid plus-size model in America talks of the delicate new dawning of a vogue for women who are "lush and sparkly, with nary a jutting collarbone in sight".

Renn says that while "crazy town still loves to gawp at the ultra-slim" there is a growing appetite in the fitness model fashion world for "the natural shapes a woman's body takes when it's not being deprived of food".

She should know. When she was spotted by a a photo gallery modeling agent at the age of 13 she was told to lose five stone: more than 42% of her then body weight. At 14, Renn was smaller than a US size zero and secured a three-year, $250,000 contract and moved to New York.

It sure has been a good year for models with Louisiana roots.

Ariel Meredith of Shreveport graced the pages of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition this spring. Isidore Newman School senior young mature Cydney Hedgpeth is the international face of Van's clothing. University of New Orleans student Allison Harvard just missed becoming "America's Next Top Model."

Now comes Emarie Wiltz of Algiers.

She's one of 16 beauties competing in the much-anticipated sixth season of glamour modeling the fashion-design competition reality show that premiered on Lifetime. She'll also appear in a new companion show, "Models of the Runway," which turns the camera's gaze away from the designers and onto the women who pose in the clothes.

In previous seasons, the talent agency models have been hardly more than hangers with hairdos, captured on camera only in frantic fitting-room scenes and striding out at judgment time. But apparently there was plenty of backstage nail-biting worthy of its own reality show.

The models, too, are competing. Top prize: $25,000 from L'Oreal Skin Genesis and a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine. Who wins, though, depends a lot on what happens in the young mature before the models even show up.

The 5-foot-9-inch Wiltz, 24, has been party modeling professionally for about five years, though she made her first steps on the catwalk when she was 8, at a J.C. Penney show in Lakeside Shopping Center.

The Edna Karr Secondary School graduate glamour modeling in Miami before moving to New York. She has posed in CosmoGirl magazine and in campaigns for Macy's and Bloomingdales.

Outside of the beautiful business, Wiltz is a student at New York University, studying talent agency marketing, and launching her own clothing line, Global Recess. Her college student/mom/model juggling act went bicoastal when "Project Runway" moved from New York to the West Coast this season. The models were all tossed together, "Real World"-style, in a loft, where they lounged around looking lovely while the cameras rolled.

For "Models," host Heidi Klum gives the women career coaching just as Tim Gunn acts as guidance counselor to the designers.

FOR five seasons the models of fitness model were expected to keep quiet and walk the walk. This time around they’re being asked to talk the talk.

Appearing on a new cable network (Lifetime) and being filmed at a new location (the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles) the new season of models agency still pits designers in an elimination competition, but it has expanded its roster of telegenic infighters to include the models who showcase the clothes.

Once an afterthought, the models are now supporting players, selected not only for their spidery limbs and doe eyes but also for their ability to interact with their fitness model designers. And for viewers who want yet more, the models are appearing in their own spinoff, “Models of the Runway,” which is scheduled on Thursday nights directly after “Project Runway.”

It follows 16 women with names like Emarie, Kojii, Matar and Yosuzi as they mature models squeeze into a loft in downtown Los Angeles, endure a shortage of bathrooms and partake in the kind of squabbling familiar to viewers of “America’s Next Top Model” and “Make Me a Supermodel.”

As a designer is eliminated, so is the bollywood actress model assigned to him or her. The goal is to be the last model standing alongside the winning designer after Heidi Klum has uttered her final “auf” on “Project Runway.” The model’s take: $25,000 from L’Oreal Skin Genesis and a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.

The living arrangements and prize packages are standard fare in the other models agency series, but producers claim that that is where the similarities end.

“Our models are already working,” said Sara Rea, an executive producer of mature models of the Runway.” “They already have contracts. This is about what it’s like to see working models in the real fashion world, not women who are just starting out and trying to get signed.” (Winners of “Top Model,” on CW, and “Supermodel,” on Bravo, are awarded $100,000, management contracts and magazine layouts.)

As a young girl making her way through New York's modeling industry in the late 1970s, Cheryl Wadlington remembers meeting mature women Naomi Sims, America's first African American cover girl.
"She was wearing all white; it was her signature look," said Wadlington, who, when models agency was a young model in New York, heard Sims speak. Now she runs a fashion etiquette camp in Philadelphia for teenage girls. Sims "wore a button-up top and a pair of exquisite linen pants. She never was wrinkled and she had the most beautiful chocolate skin. . . ."

At a time when black women were told they were too dark to even think about being mature women cover girls, Sims became the first to do so when she landed the cover of Ladies' Home Journal in 1968. She died Saturday of breast cancer at her home in Newark, N.J. She was 61.

Sims was one of the first models to become an entrepreneur. After a five-year hip hop career as one of Halston's top models, she launched a wig line and her own skin-care products. She also penned several books about African American beauty, including one of the most popular, How to Be a Top Model (Doubleday, 1979).

"She represented elegance, dignity, and beauty when her kind of beauty model agency was not the standard," said Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley, who last saw Sims in May at Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball. As a teenager, Talley had taped to his bedroom wall a photograph of Sims on the cover of Life magazine in 1969. "She broke all the barriers being a dark-skinned woman without light features."

In style circles, she was a heavy hitter.

"She was the Jackie Robinson of the models agency fashion world," said Tina King, president of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers, a historically black fashion group. It was as if she represented the beauty side of the black-power movement, King said.

Her combination of lean long limbs with chiseled features and hair pulled back is a familiar image, even if you can't quite place it. It's a look that's elegant and graceful, focusing on natural beauty.

Sullen, vacant, and with enough attitude to fill an episode of The Tyra Banks Show, some applicants for the 2009 Fashion Dallas/Kim Dawson Model Search had done their homework before the casting event at the mall's north court.

Joy Vaillancourt took her turn on the models agency catwalk during the Fashion Dallas/Kim Dawson Model Search at NorthPark Center on Saturday.

"Modeling is definitely more present in everyday culture thanks to America's Next Top Model," said Ali Michael, a top fitness modeling herself, explaining the swagger the 14- to 22-year-olds brought. The Search's 2005 winner and Teen Vogue cover girl served as runway judge for the day. Her blue eyes focused on a lithe raven-haired teenager. "I like her," Michael said under her breath, barely audible over Lady Gaga, adding the lucky girl's number to her very short list of favorites.

One by one, more than 600 potential posers made their way down the white-washed mature modeling catwalk, the third part of a four-step process to enter the search. After dropping off their applications, hopefuls were photographed by fashion photographer Larry Travis. Heading down the escalator, the entrants were briefly schooled in runway rigor by former model and current fashion show producer Jan Strimple.

Hitting the end of the runway and staring into the photo gallery Web cam set up by CW 33, which streamed live on the TV station's site, each entrant took one last photo on the adjacent red carpet. These shots are now posted at CW33.com, where viewers can push one applicant through to the semifinals.

Dallas native Lauren Moody, the first fitness modeling photo gallery person in line Saturday morning, was into networking, not catwalking. As a young girl making her way through New York's modeling industry in the late 1970s, Cheryl Wadlington remembers meeting mature women Naomi Sims, America's first African American cover girl.

"She was wearing all white; it was her signature look," said Wadlington, who, when models agency was a young model in New York, heard Sims speak. Now she runs a fashion etiquette camp in Philadelphia for teenage girls. Sims "wore a button-up top and a pair of exquisite linen pants. She never was wrinkled and she had the most beautiful chocolate skin. . . ."

At a time when black women were told they were too dark to even think about being mature women cover girls, Sims became the first to do so when she landed the cover of Ladies' Home Journal in 1968. She died Saturday of breast cancer at her home in Newark, N.J. She was 61.

Sims was one of the first models to become an entrepreneur. After a five-year hip hop career as one of Halston's top models, she launched a wig line and her own skin-care products. She also penned several books about African American beauty, including one of the most popular, How to Be a Top Model (Doubleday, 1979).

"She represented elegance, dignity, and beauty when her kind of beauty model agency was not the standard," said Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley, who last saw Sims in May at Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball. As a teenager, Talley had taped to his bedroom wall a photograph of Sims on the cover of Life magazine in 1969. "She broke all the barriers being a dark-skinned woman without light features."

In style circles, she was a heavy hitter.

"She was the Jackie Robinson of the models agency fashion world," said Tina King, president of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers, a historically black fashion group. It was as if she represented the beauty side of the black-power movement, King said.

Her combination of lean long limbs with chiseled hip hop features and hair pulled back is a familiar image, even if you can't quite place it. It's a look that's elegant and graceful, focusing on natural beauty.

No doubt about it, Anna Wintour is the brains behind Vogue. Nothing brings that into clearer focus than the new bollywood actress documentary "The September Issue." But the film exposes someone else at the magazine's heart: Creative Director Grace Coddington.

Coddington seems to pump passion and artistic integrity into the pages while not being swept up in the plus size fashions celebrity frenzy that seems synonymous with fashion these days. She's not quite the picture of glamor, either, with her wiry red hair, an almost entirely black wardrobe and a series of hippie-ish shoes that look more Birkenstock than Manolo Blahnik.

And yet when the Vogue staff fitness model wrapped up the September issue of 2007, the biggest in the title's 117-year history, Coddington could say that she drove all but one of the main
fashion features - a semi-disastrous cover shoot with Sienna Miller.

In fact, she does say it, and uses a tone that seems smug and is a bit of a dig at Wintour, who had doubted some of Coddington's plans. "I meant it tongue-in-cheek, but I do make those mature women remarks. Unfortunately not everyone sees it the same way I do," she says.

That was always fine - at least until the film, which chronicles the back and forth between the two bollywood actress women and opened in New York last Friday. "It was a complete surprise to me that, in the movie, I'm in it quite a lot. There are cameras around Vogue a lot - there are cameras around Anna a lot, but I usually end up on the cutting-room floor," Coddington says.

"They filmed for months before they turned the cameras on me at all. Anna had given them complete access so they were a bit annoyed when I kept slamming the door in their plus size fashions faces. And when it came to the shoots for that issue, she basically said: 'They are coming along and it's not an option.' But once they started coming on all the shoots, there was no point in being grumpy about it."

The relationship between mature women Coddington, camera and crew evolved into a warm one, and Coddington, 68, comes off as the unsung heroine. "If you can't beat them, join them - and I liked them," she says of the movie people.

Film maker RJ Cutler went into Vogue unsure of the story he wanted to tell, other than to offer a more intimate glimpse of Wintour, who wields power like few others in both fitness model fashion and publishing. He spent more than eight months inside Vogue's hallowed halls at Conde Nast headquarters.

It follows 16 women with names like Emarie, Kojii, Matar and Yosuzi as they mature models squeeze into a loft in downtown Los Angeles, endure a shortage of bathrooms and partake in the kind of squabbling familiar to viewers of “America’s Next Top Model” and “Make Me a Supermodel.”

Our love affair with boots has a long history. The Etruscans wore pairs with a turned-up toe; Beau Brummell kept his military-style boots shiny by polishing them with champagne. But, as a models fashion item, they hit their stride in the 1960s. That's when over-the-knee boots became the perfect complement to the futuristic freedom of the mini-skirt. Mary Quant's plastic versions had a zip around the ankle so that they could be transformed into two styles. Towards the end of the 1960s a more bohemian, rock-groupie look had taken over – think of a louche Anita Pallenberg on her way to Tangiers in a tunic, feather boa and medieval-style boots; or YSL muse Betty Catroux getting married in 1968 in a black-and-white Pierre Cardin fur coat and patent-leather boots. What’s going on with you now?
I’m going into acting, so I have a few projects there. With the modeling thing, it’s busy. There’s nothing to complain about.

Have you always aspired to act?
I sort of just fell into it like I did this. I got a lucky break.

Has stardom changed you at all?
Luckily, I’m a male model, so stardom is a ways off. If I was a girl model, I’d probably feel it a lot more fashion photos and modeling news. As a guy, you don’t get recognized. It’s kind of known in the industry, and that’s about it. I like that part, but I’d aspire for more one day.

You never get recognized?
In Korea I get recognized. In New York, I think they’re just way too busy with their own lives.
What are your favorite places you’ve visited for work?
I loved Korea. It was snowing while I was there. I’m from Georgia, and it really doesn’t snow much. Then I was in Moscow, and I just got back from Tulum in January. My favorite place so far is Kingston, New York. It was one of the most beautiful models things I’ve ever seen. We were shooting in this house, and it just had the Catskills wrapped around it.

Have you fulfilled any male fantasies working with female models?
The first check in my book was Barney’s, and I kissed Jessica Stam on that shoot. I was like, Now, if this is what male modeling’s models all about, then I’m going to be very excited. But I haven’t kissed anybody since. I think they were just trying to tease me.

What do your Southern friends think about your profession?
My best friend’s a pipe layer, so we’re really quite different. He’s a six-foot redhead named Randy, and he lays pipes for a living. He’s good at his job. He’s a very hard worker. Before this, we built retaining walls for pools together. Going from retaining walls to online gallery male modeling ... He just makes fun of me most the time.

Do your friends from Georgia come up to visit?
Randy’s come up a couple times, and my buddies came up for my birthday last year. My family’s only been once, so my friends must like me more than my family.

Is your family supportive of the career choice?
At first, my dad made fun of me a lot, but now he’s proud of me for accomplishing something in my life. My mother’s always been behind me, but I guess any mom would want their son or daughter to be a model. My dad had higher aspirations for me, but you know, this is what happened. I got handed this, and I took the opportunity.

I choose not to go out anymore. I have a really small group of friends, and I quite enjoy beer pong at my apartment if I do say so myself. There’s way too many people at the places that people go out too.

Fashion designer Johnny Blue Eyes’ first beauty show made it onto the front pages of many national newspapers. But the House of Blue Eyes catwalk attracted attention last September less for the clothes, and more because supermodel Kate Moss took to the runway for the first time in four years.

So it is understandable that for subsequent showcases he has attempted to make as much of a splash. Cue an unusual collaboration – a catwalk show at music festival Latitude earlier this month.

Blue Eyes’ show saw models stride across a catwalk suspended in Suffolk’s Henham Park lake, giving the appearance they were walking on water. It included dancing, musical performances and a poetry reading and saw five members of the public who won an online competition strut down the runway.

The performance element, something Blue Eyes says is important to him, distracted somewhat from the clothes, which included skinny jeans, burnt orange jumpers and space-age high cut leotards combined with platform boots.

Johnny Blue Eyes is not the first to mix the fashion show and festivals - Barbara Hulanicki and Luella Bartley joined milliner Stephen Jones for an on-stage styling event at the Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall last weekend.

Being under the spotlight isn't all glamour. As Sara Ziff discovered, top models also fall prey to sexual predators.

A 16-year-old girl is on her first modeling shoot in Paris. She is unchaperoned and inexperienced. She takes a break for a cup of coffee, and a photographer follows her down the hall. She stops, and he fiddles with her clothes. Then he reaches in between her legs and gropes her. Stunned, the model says nothing. He says nothing. They walk back into the room and finish the shoot.

It's stories like these that stood out as Sara Ziff, a successful runway model, and her boyfriend, filmmaker Ole Schell, began shooting behind the scenes at Ziff's shows. For five years, they recorded parties, castings, inside hotel rooms, and backstage behind the runway as Ziff became the face of campaigns from Calvin Klein to Dolce & Gabbana. What emerged was a portrait of the dark side of the modeling world, one that most people never see: young girls, often half a world away from home, unprepared to handle the sexual objectification and frequent harassment that Ziff says is an all-too-common part of their jobs. Ziff and Schell turned their footage into a documentary, Picture Me, which won the audience award for best picture at the Milan Film Festival last month. Ziff spoke with NEWSWEEK's Jessica Bennett. Excerpts:

Bennett: Were you worried how the industry would react to your film?
Ziff: After the premiere, I figured I might never work again. But if anything, I think [the film] has actually helped my career. A week after the premiere, a casting agent or casting director who was there booked me for a Gap ad. I've gotten e-mails from well-known designers and casting directors and tons of other models, saying, "I'm so glad this is finally coming out, because so many people have these stories." And it's really not that secret. People know these things happen, but they tend to turn a blind eye. And if you don't talk about it, you think you're the only one.

Were you ever put in that kind of position?
I started modeling at 14, after being scouted on the street walking home from school. One of my first castings was in a photographer's apartment downtown. I got there, and there was a line of models waiting at the door. I went in and he asked me to show him my book. I did, and then he said, "Well, this is a bathing-suit story, and it's a little hard for me to picture you in a bathing suit. Could you take your shirt off?" And I thought, "Well, that makes sense," so I did. And then he said, "Can you take your pants off?" And this continued to the point where I'm standing there [topless,] basically totally naked. I was 14. And in hindsight, it's crazy that I was put in that position, but I just didn't know any better.

Did you tell your parents?
No, absolutely not. It was something I had never talked about until recently, even with the people closest to me. For the most part, people on these shoots are completely professional, so no girl who has one or two bad experiences—which she's bound to have is going to call home and say, "Mom, Dad, I just got molested." Because she knows she's going to be on the next bus back to Kansas.

The lovely ladies competing for a spread in SELF Magazine, a contract with Wilhelmina, and $100K on She’s Got the Look are not your average models. They’re all proudly flaunting a little detail about themselves that most models strive to conceal at any cost: their age. It’s hard to be cynical about a show that according to celebrity stylist and SGTL judge Robert Verdi, is desperate to show the beauty and diversity of women over the age of 23. And these women, ranging in age from 35 all the way up to 72 are smokin’ hot. There’s been a major cultural shift, Verdi explains, women are now allowed to be mothers and to be sexy, to be married and to be sexy.

They may be older, but that doesn’t make them wiser, or even more mature. Which makes for some stellar television? Like a perimenopausal ANTM, the show has its share of drama, attitudes, and some good old fashion passionate. If you haven’t been watching, you missed one of reality TV’s destined to be classic freakouts, when 42-year-old Laurie flashed her during judging and was subsequently eliminated. Even more distressing from a mental health perspective is Laurie’s explanation for her bizzarro behavior, apparently God said Laurie, be transparent, and she interpreted the sentiment to mean going wild spring break style.

Weather postpones C. Linn fashion show

Wintry weather and slick roads have postponed tonight’s student-organized fashion modeling show at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center.

“It’s just not safe,” Erica Lewis, one of the three organizers of the show, said this morning. “Half our editorial models can’t even get there.”

Lewis, Arielle Strickland and Ellie Boggs put together the show, called “It’s Going to be a White Christmas,” as their senior project for their career-planning class at Central Linn High School.

The show was to be a fundraiser for the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, which in conjunction with the Girl Scouts’ Uniquely Me program is designed to help women and girls gain self-esteem and confidence.

Lewis, Strickland and Boggs lined up student volunteers to work the show and also arranged for eight business sponsors, as well as musical entertainment.

Lewis said she and the others hope the show can be rescheduled but recognize the logistical hurdles they would have to overcome to make that happen.

English model Katie Green has launched a scathing attack on fashion model Jourdan Dunn, calling her a poster girl for anorexia.

Green, who had once been told to lose weight if she wanted a promotional modelling career but refused, was angry at the decision made by the British Fashion Council in naming 18-year-old Dunn as Model of the Year at a glitzy London bash.

I think it is disgusting that Jourdan won, the Sun quoted her as saying.

What kind of message does this send out to young girls, aspiring model and even us normal women.

Jourdan is seriously underweight. I was looking at pictures of her and she looks like a bag of bones. Her legs are like two twigs. I was horrified.

At a size 12 and 5ft 10in I am at the bottom of a healthy body mass index, so if I had lost any weight when asked I would have become medically underweight.

But this girl is 10 times smaller than me so would therefore be seriously unhealthy and underweight.

I think its thoughtless that the British Fashion Council would “crown” a stick-thin rake as their fashion models of the Year.

Its almost like they are asking for young girls to have eating disorders.

I want to march Jourdan down to her local restaurant and shovel some food down her throat.

Men just don”t find this attractive and neither do any of us real women.

Ultimo would never consider hiring a girl of her size. Its a shame other companies cannot follow suit.

I”d prefer to not be named Editorial Model of the year if it means being this unhealthily thin, she added.

- Make sure your body stays fit and well groomed. If you are overweight or experience any other problems, attend a swimming pool or a fitness-center.

- Try to get a closer look at editorial modeling world. Flip through magazines, watch fashion show reports, etc. Try to talk to established models if you can, but remember that their opinions are purely personal and are not necessarily correct.

- Determine how much time you can devote to modeling, if you must attend to other activities (study, job, etc). Determine if you are willing to relocate to another city or country for a period of time.

Casting and Jobs

- It is advisable to take an extra pair of beige and black-colored lingerie, maybe a robe and a towel. Buy a modeling notebook to keep track of your casting schedule, jobs, financial calculations, etc. Your deodorant should be scentless and leave no marks. You may come across the following types of contracts:

- Exclusive promotional modeling contract (the model is obliged to cooperate only with one certain agency) Open contract (the model has the right to cooperate with several agencies at the same time). One-time contract (the deal which is signed to perform a certain one time job or project). In you have any doubts, get a lawyer’s advice concerning contract items. A contract should cover all the financial conditions, the type of work, the expiration date and the obligations of parties.

- If you want to end the contract make sure you have no financial obligations before your agency or any additional contracts for any jobs or projects. Otherwise you may have to pay a one-time compensation for disruption of work.

- If you do not hold a contract with the agency or are holding an open contract and are in for a serious project or job, you should sign a one-time agreement covering a job type, an amount and a time of payment. That is a regular procedure and legitimate agencies won’t be evading it.

- A contract allows you to solve emerging problems by legal means. If you are in debt with the agency try to cover it with your first royalties so that you won’t have any financial obligations in future.

Portfolio

- Always carry a copy of your portfolio with you.

- Take new shoots every six months. If you want to obtain professional photos, refrain from using pictures taken by “friends” or photographers with shady reputation. Try to keep track of the way your agency uses your photos. The agency has no right to use your photos without your consent, if your contract doesn’t indicate otherwise. Don’t forget to update your portfolio with tests, demonstration photos, ads, interviews, etc.
